Five Surprising Beauty Uses for Coconut Oil

June 30, 2015 By Tabitha Paculba Leave a Comment

FullSizeRenderIf you are interested in natural beauty methods, you may want to consider coconut oil. This fabulous plant based oil is already in many of the beauty products that you can find in health food stores, and you can incorporate it easily into your own beauty routine. Consider the following ideas:

  1. Eye Makeup Remover

No matter what type of eye makeup you use, even waterproof mascara and liner, coconut oil removes it with ease while leaving your eyes refreshed and hydrated. Gently massage a pea-sized amount over each eyelid, including your lashes. Then, swab with a cotton ball to remove. Repeat if necessary.

  1. Hand and Foot Moisturizer

Dry hands and feet can make you look older, but coconut oil can turn that around. Towel dry after your shower, then massage a tablespoon or so of the oil into your hands and feet. Make certain that you get the areas between your fingers and toes. Your skin will look softer and feel more supple.

  1. After Shave Lotion

Shaving can leave your legs and underarms dry. Use a small amount of coconut oil to refresh your skin and leave them silky smooth. The antibacterial and antimicrobial properties will help with any razor burn or nicks you may have.

  1. Glossy Hair

If you have dry, flyaway hair, massage a bit of the oil into your hands, and rub into your hair. Work especially on hair ends, which are often the driest. Then, comb through your hair and style as usual.

  1. Homemade Body Scrub

Everyone loves the sensation of a good body scrub, but the ones at the store are often expensive. As an alternative home spa idea, create your own scrub. Melt one cup of the oil slowly. Add one cup each of ground oatmeal and sea salt, plus 20 drops lavender essential oil. Store in an airtight glass container. You may substitute coffee grounds for part of the oatmeal, or brown sugar for the sea salt. Additionally, consider other essential oils, such as peppermint, for a refreshing experience.

Coconut oil provides a luxurious feel to your skin and hair, with all natural healing and moisturizing properties. Use these recipes regularly for a glowing, healthy appearance that others are sure to notice.
