Exciting After School Activities That Encourage Confidence

October 15, 2020 By WELLJOURN

By the time she enters private kindergarten, your daughter is already developing critical self-awareness skills such as confidence, inclusion, and self-esteem. You can encourage her in developing these skills with a few afternoon activities that require personal responsibility.

Pet Care

Giving your private kindergarten student the task of providing food and water to the family pet is an awesome confidence-building routine.  Even small jobs like taking the dog out for a walk, or picking up behind her furry friend provide her with a sense of accomplishment and self-importance.

An Important Task

One way to build confidence is to present your daughter with an assignment that is “important.” The job can be almost anything, but you should treat it as a vital operation that simply can’t be completed without your daughter’s specific skill set. Don’t forget to let her know that you couldn’t have done it without her after the job is completed.

What I Know

It can be developmentally dangerous for a child to fall into the habit of not learning. Instead of accepting that “nothing” happened at school today, establish a daily routine that is dedicated to exploring what happened during the day and how your child learned something new from the experience. By displaying an eagerness to learn from what your daughter learned, you give her the confidence to talk about her experiences and what they mean to her personally.

Setting the Table

Setting the dinner table may be one of the earliest routine tasks given to small children. The process doesn’t change much from day to day, and it involves your child in family-related activity. This inclusion and responsibility help her feel more important as a member of the family group while helping with fine motor skills and critical thinking in the process.

While she is learning Montessori concepts in a private kindergarten, what you involve your kindergarten daughter in at home will be as beneficial to her development, if not more so. You already know how important she is to you, and now is the time to make sure she knows as well
