How is Montessori Daycare Important For Childhood Development?

December 3, 2021 By WSI Reports

Montessori is invested in developing the whole child, including physical, mental, emotional, and practical life skills.

Montessori is invested in developing the whole child, including physical, mental, emotional, and practical life skills.

A Montessori daycare is much more than a babysitter for your children. The Montessori Method uses a hands-on approach to education that employs multiple learning techniques concurrently to develop the whole child. The goal is to instill a love for learning and respect for all things while developing the skills necessary for success at every age.

Montessori Daycare Develops Physical Skills

Your child’s Montessori daycare encourages freedom of movement and incorporates physical activity into all segments of the school day. This includes developing fine motor skills associated with grasping and manipulation of small objects and gross motor skills used for running, climbing, and lifting. Children on the Montessori playground are not “giving the teacher a break,” they are taking part in important developmental activities.

Daycare Teaches Social Interaction

In the process of performing a variety of activities, Montessori daycare children learn to interact with other kids, adults, and family members. These skills will be useful throughout the child’s life, and promotes healthy communication skills. Social skills include, but is not limited to:

  • Language Development – Involves singing, speaking, reading, and writing
  • Learning Social Etiquette – Involves asking for permission, taking turns, and admitting mistakes
  • Developing Self-Esteem – Teaches children to be more proactive, to assume leadership roles, and a willingness to help others
  • Learning to Accept Responsibilities – Involves practical life skills, following routines, and becoming a self-starter

Learning Hands-On Academic Skills

Montessori daycares use hands-on, activity based lessons to teach everything from arithmetic to world history, a teaching method that has been used by people throughout human history. The idea is that children will learn more readily if they are using engaging interactive materials, and any visit to a Montessori classroom will confirm that the children are engaged in their various activities.

Montessori daycare is involved in helping children develop a complete range of abilities that include emotional, physical, academic, and social skills. By enrolling children early, they gain the advantage of being part of the entire Montessori developmental process rather than entering it at a later age.
